GoldDust Orchestral 2012

sights and sounds pulled me back down another year...

2012 marked Tori's second outing with the Metropole Orkest, touring in support of Golddust album. The tour was short and confined to Europe. While the setlist didn't vary apart from a solo song each stop the quality of the performances and the re-worked orchestration by John Philip Shenale made the shows really special. The reworking of orchestrations and addition of other songs from her back catalogue (Hey Jupiter & Gold Dust being two standouts) really made up for the slight disappointment of the first orchestral show in 2010.

Obviously London was my first stop, I will always jump at any chance to see Tori in London especially if it's in the Royal Albert Hall. Everything about hearing Gold Dust performed with an orchestra was incredible, it's surprising just how immersive the sound feels. The strings swell and seem to add colour to what is already an emotional powerhouse of a song.

A trip to Berlin was also on the cards, but instead of just seeing Tori I managed to see so much more. There was a festival of lights in the city, illuminating landmarks and buildings all around with projections. Wandering through the city to the Bauhaus was a particular highlight. We also ended up seeing an exhibition of Dennis Hopper's photography that was unexpectedly on at the time. No trip to Berlin would be complete without seeing the remnants of the wall and visiting the Holocaust memorial that is a stunningly beautiful piece of architecture. Once again Tori dazzled with the orchestra helping cement the trip to Berlin as one I wouldn't soon forget.
